The final round of the 2017 GPVWC Formula Challenge season saw us visit Abu Dhabi, and it was again an evening of mixed fortunes for myself and Mark. After showing limited pace in practice I was surprised to find myself finishing in 8th place for race 1. It was a tremendous result as it moved me up to 17th in the drivers championship, and a fairly unlucky 13th place finish in race 2 gave me a couple more points to solidify the place. Race 2 was going well in 5th place until I got caught up with Roy, which spun me around, and from there I was struggling to stay in the points. Mark had an awful evening again, finishing in 18th and 20th places for the two races.
It has certainly been a season of ups and downs, but for the most part it’s been enjoyable. We finished in 9th place overall in the teams championship, which wasn’t bad for our maiden season, and I finished 17th in the drivers championship, with Mark in 20th place. Christoph had four reserve drives for the team, but just missed out on points on a few occasions.
I am going to be retiring the team from GPVWC, along with myself, as I feel I can’t fully commit to such a long gruelling season, and after five seasons there in various teams it feels time to move on now. I’d like to thank Mark and Christoph for putting in so much effort for this season, their help with setups and putting up with the now renowned Formula Challenge lap 1 racing disasters which seemed to affect us at every race!
