Round 2 of the VSCC Season 3 championship at Taruma saw both of us finish well, with Paul in particular, producing an excellent drive to finish in 11th place and make up for his disappointment of last weeks DNF.
The times across the field were much tighter this time around and Paul qualified in a fantastic 11th, but unfortunately for me, although I was only seven hundredths of a second behind I could only manage 23rd. I didn’t get the best of starts and it took a few laps to start making up the places to try and avoid the relegation places initially, before trying to finish as high as I could. I had some amazing battles along the way with Ryan Seltzer, Craig Patteson and Daniel Lee, but it was the battle with Craig 2 to 3 laps from the end that stood out the most. Separated by less than a car width for the final lap I managed to hold him off by 0.005 seconds and take a satisfying 15th place. Paul’s pace was terrific throughout and he will be very pleased with his first points of the season and a renewed belief that a top ten placing in the coming rounds is not an unrealistic target.
