Damage limitation was again the sole purpose of this adventure into the twisty streets of Las Vegas. Horribly off pace yet again, a dreadful setup and without my team mate for company, it was always going to be a tough ask to perform well here, but it actually turned out pretty good in the end.
Only 20 drivers showed up this time around, which may have been due to either the hangover from Indinapolis in the last round or the Las Vegas track just wasn’t to anyones liking! I didn’t try too hard in qualifying because, feeling uneasy in the car, I wasn’t looking forward to going wheel to wheel with anyone and I though starting near the back would give me a bit of freedom. Eventually starting from 3rd last, there was the inevitable collisions up ahead and I moved up through the field as the laps ticked by. I got up to 12th place, and even after my pit stop, was still there. Stupidly, after about two thirds of the race I locked the front wheels heading into one of the lovely corners on this track and lost my front wing. By this point I was running 10th and a lap ahead of the cars behind, but the pit stop panicked me because suddenly I wasn’t a lap ahead and Danny Asbury was catching me at about 5 seconds a lap. No more mistakes finally saw me home in 10th place only 20 seconds ahead and 3 laps down from the leaders. Happy enough with that result, although my pace is a real problem going into the second half of the season.
