An incredible double win for me tonight in the Race Department Mini races at Johannesburg Historic! 🙂
Paul Watkins joined me for the first time as my team mate, albeit not in an official Mighty Forth capacity, and overall we had a great nights racing!
From the practice times it looked like we might be pretty quick in the race, and after qualifying 1-2, with Paul on pole, it seemed that we had a great chance of a result. Paul had a bad start and got bogged down, but I managed to pull away in first with Theo and Chris in close pursuit. I had an really intense battle with Theo for quite a few laps after that with us swapping places on the long home straight and eventually I managed to pull ahead and lose the tow, while Paul, charging through the field began to pressurise Theo. After that it was all about keeping a safe distance and taking a really good win from Theo and second, and Paul in a very close Third.
Qualifying for race 2 went well again for the two of us again, but this time I took pole position and Paul was second. Unfortunately, Paul missed the start of race 2 and starting from the pit lane had a DQ for speeding, so it all ended pretty badly before it had begun for him! I got a great start and a very lonely race with no real threat from anyone behind me.  It was strange having so much daylight from pulling away and I had to keep the concentration levels high to avoid any silly mistakes. I led the whole race and took win number 2 by 14 seconds! I’m sure it would have been a closer run thing if Paul was alongside though.
