Had a lot of fun the Formula Vee cars at Race Department tonight. We could have done with some more drivers, but there always seemed to be someone to race against and I ended up with two 2nd place finishes in the end!
I qualified in pole position after Jarek decided to DQ himself to start at the back of the field. I got a good start and had a 5 second gap to 2nd until I managed to spin the car and end up 7th less than a third of the way into lap 1. I slowly made back a few places with overtakes and passing a couple of spinners and somehow ended lap 1 in the lead again. Jarek was about 6-8 seconds a lap quicker then me and I knew if would just be a matter of time before he caught and passed me. I tried to keep up with him but it was compromising my concentration levels and I started to overdrive the car. I settled into 2nd and stayed there to the finish with the next car over a minute and a half behind.
Race 2 was a reverse grid so starting from 7th, again I slowly made my way through the field up into the lead with Jarek in close proximity. He passed me on the long straight at the end of lap 1 and I spent the next two laps trying to at least keep a respectable distance from him. I finished 9 seconds behind in the end and two minutes ahead of 3rd placed Srinath.
Great fun driving these cars and at the Nordschleife it’s an amazing challenge!
