After a few recent struggles with the GT Series, it was a much improved team performance for round 5 at Brno on Thursday evening. Paul had been really quick in practice and it came as no shock that he qualified inside the top ten, although his previous grid penalty came into effect which knocked him down the pegging order, to just in front of me. Paul got a good start and was quickly back inside the top ten challenging while I was struggling to break into the top 15. We had decided to try and run the cars to the end without pitting for the first time this season, but it was all very new to us, and we weren’t sure how it would pan out. It definitely worked for me as I held a reasonable pace for the entire race and didn’t hurt the tyres as much as I thought I would. I eventually finished in 11th place, much higher than I would have done if I had pitted. Unfortunately for Paul, his fuel usage was slightly higher and he ran out on the final lap, losing three places and dropping to 10th after running in a fantastic 7th place. Thankfully he was already classified after the leader lapped me on the final lap, so he wasn’t going to drop any further. Really pleased with the result in the end and we have plenty of positives to take to Silverstone in the next round.
