GPVWC GT Series – Race 6 Silverstone

The penultimate round of the GPVWC GT Series at Silverstone was another up and down event for the team with the sudden arrival of a wet track for the first time in the season and an unfortunate disconnect for Paul.  Paul had great pace going into this round and was looking good for a top ten finish on pace alone, but unfortunately, the heavens opened at the start of qualifying, completely taking everyone by surprise and unsettling a lot of drivers into tyre errors and mistakes.  Both Paul and myself qualified ok, but we made the mistake of starting the race on the endurance tyres on a completely wet track, forcing Paul to start from the pit lane and me gambling that it might dry out quickly!  The start was as expected and I dropped like a stone from the cars in front and Paul, now on more appropriate tyres, overtook me very quickly.  He would only last 7 laps however, as he disconnected from the server after a blue screen crash, leaving me to fight on alone.  Thankfully the ridiculous tyre decision actually paid off as a dry line started to appear, meaning I was the only car not to have to pit, giving me a chance to move up the field in the later stages.  A few disconnects by other drivers, spins and crashes over the course of the race meant that I finished in a fantastic 9th place without stopping, our highest position of the season and a happy ending to what was a very demanding event.
